ABA therapists work one-on-one with clients. Therapy can take place in the client’s home, the clinic, and/or school. ABA therapists utilize highly structured treatment programs developed by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) that are geared toward the specific client’s developmental and behavioral needs. Therapists will not create these plans themselves. ABA therapists will use principles of behavior analysis to help patients develop skills and verbal behavior while helping create a socially significant change in behaviors, which may include aggressive behavior. Therapists will reinforce socially appropriate behaviors and provide intervention when patients exhibit maladaptive behaviors.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Complete all certifications within Relias modules assigned by a direct supervisor that meet the criterion to become a Registered Behavior Technician (“RBT”). All employees are required to become an RBT within the first 60 days of employment.
  • Follow behavior plans and other protocols developed for clients by the BCBA.
  • Demonstrate the application of behavior principles to shape behaviors
  • Provide direct therapy in individual and group sessions.
  • Follow clients’ daily schedules.
  • Work with consultants from various fields of expertise including (i.e., BCBA, BCBA-D, Speech Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Psychologist, Psychiatrist, etc.) to implement individualized goals and checklists developed.
  • Complete daily data recording using the data collection app.
  • Implement individualized treatment/skill development plan as written and directed by BCBA/BCaBA. 
  • Maintain respect and confidentiality for all clients.
  • Maintain and protect the well-being of all clients.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, benchmarking state-of-the-art practices, and participating in professional societies.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Read, analyze, and interpret general information.
  • Be flexible, creative, and demonstrate strong organizational skills.
  • Be highly motivated and self-directed.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and be willing to provide a positive role model for other therapists.
  • Have basic computer skills for data entry.
  • Be able to physically ambulatory and active—easily and quickly transition from floor play to walking with a client; able to run with a client;
  • Actively play with the client and physically manage aggressive behavior according to behavior plans.
  • View a computer screen or other close work less than 18 inches.
  • Pass background checks, which include BMV, County criminal history, and Indiana limited State criminal history. National criminal history, pre-employment drug screening, and clearance from the State Nurse Aid Registry and the DIG Medicaid fraud registry.
  • Participate in staff development activities as assigned.
  • Observe and follow all agency and departmental philosophies, policies, procedures, and the Agency Standards of Conduct and Code of Ethics.
  • Have dependable transportation, hold a valid Indiana driver’s license with an insurable driving record, and have proof of State required liability insurance on a personal vehicle.
  • Participate in and pass physical interventions and restraint training, provided by our own CPI staff trainer.
  • Have an active telephone available at all times.
  • Obtain First Aid/CPR certification when assigned, including demonstrating the ability to perform chest compressions at floor level.

Physical requirements:

  • Push, pull, bend, stoop, crawl, walk, reach, lift, climb stairs, and run without assistance when applicable to the environment.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally when working with clients or equipment.
  • Willing to travel using a personal vehicle.
  • Follow the dress code as defined by BAI.

Minimum Education Requirements

All applicants must have a high school diploma to be able to complete Relias training.

A bachelor’s degree in psychology, education, social work, counseling, or a related field is preferred; currently earning an undergraduate degree in behavior analysis will be considered.

Candidates that are seeking to become certified as BCaBA, BCBA, or BCBA-D by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board are considered, these positions are limited to allow appropriate professional development and supervision.

Staff – Employee Evaluation

  • An evaluation will be completed by the Director of Human Resources & Clinical team, every 6 months.
  • Objectives will be developed and reviewed as necessary throughout the review year and added as an addendum.
